The Last Goodbye

On the evening of July 19, 2016, twenty-year-old Sierah Joughin got on her bicycle and headed home after spending the afternoon with her boyfriend, Joshua Kolasinski. Though her grandparents’ house in Metamora was only a few miles away, her high school sweetheart — and love of her young life — had hopped on his motorcycle and ridden alongside her most of the way. Before parting, Josh had snapped a few candid shots of a beaming Sierah on his cellphone. The haunting images would be the last ones ever taken of the University of Toledo coed.

Upon returning home, Josh had expected to receive a text from Sierah at any minute letting him know that she had made it to her destination. When no message was forthcoming, he tried to reach her by phone, but his efforts went straight to voicemail.

At around the same time, Sierah’s family was also beginning to suspect that something was wrong. They knew her as well as they knew themselves and it wasn’t like her to vanish without letting someone know where she was and when she would be back.
