I know what you mean. On the one hand, having food delivered to your door is a modern convenience that is generally safe, on the other hand, you are taking the chance (however slim) that the person at your door is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Uber, and other rideshare companies, are also tricky. I wrote a piece on Samantha Josephson, a college student who ordered a ride via an app, only to mistakenly get into the car of a thrill killer.

Fortunately, the industry has improved safety measures since then in an attempt to protect both passengers and drivers.

When all is said and done, the best we can do is follow the safety guidelines to the letter and be our own advocates when it comes to putting our trust in strangers. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, these interactions go off without a hitch. Even so, it's worrisome, especially when it comes to our natural desire to protect the ones we love.
