Stefanie Scott

A Teacher’s Last Day

On April 5, 2015, twenty-six-year-old educator Stefanie Scott planned to spend the day tying up loose ends in preparation for her upcoming nuptials. In less than a week, she and her longtime love, twenty-seven-year-old Aaron Leeson-Woolley, would be united as husband and wife. The much-anticipated nuptials had monopolized most of her time, and the blushing bride-to-be had savored every minute of it.

In order to make things easier for the substitute who would be taking over her classroom while she was away on honeymoon, Stefanie decided to spend the day at the school in Riverina, New South Wales, mapping out a lesson plan. Since her fiancé was out of town for the weekend, it seemed like the perfect time to take care of last-minute details.

Stefanie had let herself into the locked facility using her passkey, due to the fact that it was Easter Sunday and there was no one else around. Before getting down to business, she had texted Aaron at around 11:00 a.m. to let him know where she was on the off chance he returned home earlier than expected. Though she didn’t know it at the time, this would help investigators track her whereabouts after her good deed took an unexpected, and tragic, turn.
