Spot on. I thought the same thing. If she wanted to get his attention or prove a point, she could have simply doused him in water. Had she left it at that, the incident would have been quickly forgotten, and the family would still be intact. I don't believe for a millisecond that she didn't know the damaging effects of lye. She let her mean-spiritedness get the better of her and her father paid the price.
