Although documented cases of ritual murder are relatively rare, in the 1970s–1990s, accounts of satanic cults preying upon the innocent flooded the media. While the frenzy eventually died down, not all of the alleged instances of murderous occult activity have been debunked. Among the cases that are still actively being investigated today is the mysterious death of sixteen-year-old Jeannette DePalma.

Early on the afternoon of August 7, 1972, Jeannette told her mother she was going to visit a friend and would be back before sundown. For reasons as yet unknown, she never made it to her destination, nor did she return home.

After spending a long night waiting in vain for their daughter to walk through the door, Jeannette’s parents reported her missing. Since it wasn’t unheard of for teenagers to run off and worry their parents to death, police had assured the anxious family that she would probably come home of her own accord in a day or two.
