You've made so many excellent points, I hardly know where to start.
I too fear that we will never know how many women fell victim to Chandler before his capture. He was way too comfortable with the act of murder for Joan and her daughters to have been his first victims.
As for Mr. Rogers, I'm torn. While everyone deals with trauma in their own way, his disconnect from the reality of the horrible fate that befell his wife and children is troubling. No judgement here, just a lack of understanding as to his state of mind. With that being said, to say that the family was dysfunctional would be an understatement.
Your description of the danger women face on a daily basis is spot on. Chandler would never have targeted a father and his teenage children. A coward through and through, he preyed on those he knew he could control. It's the way it's always been and, sadly, always will be.
